Mesa is the third most populous city in Arizona with a thriving culture of business, arts, and education. As one of the nation’s fastest-growing cities, Mesa has exploded with employment opportunities. However, the cost of living has remained lower here than the average for the Phoenix metro area with a considerable amount of affordable real estate to rent or own. Job-hunters of every sort will find Mesa to be a profitable city.
The city of Mesa can be found east of Tempe and north of Gilbert. The city covers about 128 square miles, and is hooked into the Valley by the Loops 101 and 202 and the US-60 freeway. Most of Mesa is zoned for residential and industrial use with a rather large percentage of the city remaining undeveloped. That’s not to say Mesa is barren, but rather the majority of its construction is new.
The major employers in Mesa come from a number of industries including Banner Health Systems in the medical field to the Boeing Company in aerospace and Tribune Newspapers in the area of publishing. Mesa does not seem to focus on any one industry, instead choosing to create business “corridors” where the tax and economic environment is favorable to any sort of company. Mesa is also rebuilding itself into a destination for tourism and culture.
A search of the job opportunities in Mesa indicated well over 300 positions in the immediate area. Of these, healthcare, management and sales topped the list. The major employers in the search were Iasis Healthcare, Life Care Centers of America, and Google, Inc. Approximately one hundred other employers also appeared in the search.
Expanding the job search to the neighboring cities added several thousand open positions to the results. Most of these were in Tempe and Scottsdale. Healthcare, management and customer service were the major industries represented at the top of the list. However, engineering, finance and marketing also came up with dozens of jobs. Because of Mesa’s excellent traffic systems, many workers here find commuting to be a practical and inexpensive option.
